Moles are part of the human body and people from every culture, every sex, and every age have them. Moles, also called nevi, are created by a cluster of skin pigment cells that develop a growth within the skin. Usually these pigment cells are supposed to keep spreading throughout the body instead of gathering in one area.  Everyone experiences moles and many people have anywhere from ten to fifty of them on average.  The majority of people are not born with moles, and if they are born with one, it is congenital. Congenital moles should always be examined upon first sight as they present a high risk of skin cancer. If people have this type of mole they should avoid too much sun exposure and make regular visits to the dermatologist.

Moles are not always raised and they can come in freckle form, or spots. Just because they are flat does not mean they could cause problems. Obviously moles that are raised are much more noticeable than flat ones. Many people who have raised moles will think about removing them at some point in there life. There are a variety of ways to get rid of a mole.

Here are some suggestions on how to get rid of a mole:

  • Try electrosurgery. This is when the dermatologist or general physician uses electricity to kill the deep mole tissue. The electricity will destroy any chance of the mole growing back again after it has been cut off with a scalpel.
  • Laser surgery seems to be popular, but it is not always effective like other forms of mole removal. This is because it does not necessarily guarantee that another mole will not grow back. With laser surgery the dermatologist will make sure the mole and surrounding area is numb by applying anesthetic. The laser then destroys all of the nevus tissue of the mole and shaves or cuts it off.
  • Another popular method to remove a mole is by applying liquid nitrogen to the mole. This freezes the mole making it easy for the dermatologist or doctor to cut or shave off. This procedure can provide minor side effects such as scarring and itching.  This procedure can cause some minor discomfort.
  • There is a variety of other the counter medications and doctor prescribed medications that can aid in getting rid of a mole.  These medications can take anywhere from a month to six weeks until they work, so it might be the number one option.  Be aware of over the counter tissue destroying mole removal acids as they might burn the surrounding area of the mole.
If an individual wants to know how to get remove a mole, they should consult with their doctor to see what the best treatment for their individual situation would be. If there are abnormalities found in any moles on the body, a person should get to their doctor immediately for a check up and examination.
