Hairy Moles
People from all over the world experience moles. It does not depend on what age, sex, or culture a person is. They are a common finding on the human body and it is good to be aware of them. Hairy moles tend to be a frustration for many people. People who have moles growing hair tend to feel self conscious about their appearance, therefore making them avoid certain social settings. Even if the individual has accepted their mole as part of their face or body, they might constantly worry about forgetting to check to see if there is hair growing from the mole. We are taught in society that anything from the norm is not as attractive, so hairy moles have been made fun of for years. Hairy and growing moles should be monitored just like the rest of all mole types. Moles can come in all different forms, from the red blood mole, to the itchy mole.
Dermatologists suggest that individuals should perform self
examinations of their moles on a constant basis. Any mole
that has changed in shape, size or colour should be examined
by a health professional. Large hairy moles can be unattractive
to look at and usually a person who has one will attempt to
get
rid of moles. These hairy moles can be found on babies
and newborn infants in their early days of life. Usually this
hairy mole is referred to as a birthmark and may have a few
single hairs growing out of it. Some moles vary with the amount
of hair growing from the mole and a person might have dense
hair all over the mole, or just a few stems.
Hairy growing moles are not usually known as a sign of cancerous
skin or cells. However, a large hairy mole on an infant can
be worrisome as it could become a melanoma later in life.
The large hairy mole would have to be monitored by a pediatric
skin specialist and always checked for further growth.
Many people choose laser or surgical treatments to get rid
of moles growing
hair. The surgical procedures may include the use of liquid
nitrogen or electricity. These methods destroy the hairy moles
tissue, thus making it easy to scalpel off. Laser surgery
is beneficial and does not leave any scarring like the surgical
procedures can, but there is a chance that the whole of the
mole is not removed. The laser is not invasive so it does
not get underneath the skin when the mole was first developed.
There is a chance that when the hairy mole is removed, there
will be some production of keloid, or scar tissue.
Many people with hairy moles find that the mole becomes irritated when shaving, wearing jewelry, or even when changing clothes. If an individual has a hairy mole they should avoid over exposure to UV rays and if need be, use sun block on sunny days outside. People should not try to remove the mole themselves as this could lead to burning, permanent scarring, or an infection. An infection could lead to a variety of other skin complications. Always make sure to consult with a dermatologist or doctor before choosing a surgical procedure, or natural home remedy. Be aware that everyone has different skin and different reactions to medical methods.
