Normal Moles
Normal moles are usually benign moles and have no major abnormalities.
They are never usually noticed and there isn’t any sensitivity
or itching from the mole. Normal moles can be of a variety
of colours. They can be tanned, pink, red, brown, black or
dark brown. Red
moles and moles that change from pink to a dark colour
over night can be a cause of concern. Abnormal moles have
signs of growth, colour change and shape alteration.
It is important to self examine even normal moles as they can always change. The common characteristics that are sought when looking at a normal mole are:
- Shape is oval, round and symmetrical
- Border is sharp, and defined.
- Diameter is ¼ inch or smaller
- Color of the mole is tan, brown or skin color and uniform
- Location of the normal moles are on sun exposed areas such as the legs, arms and face
There are other types of moles such as acquired, atypical, dysplastic and congenital. Congenital moles are when an individual has them at birth. These moles are also called congenital nevus. These types of moles are risky and should be monitored constantly throughout life.
Atypical
mole is a mole that is larger than other moles and usually
comes in a different shape other than a rounded one. They
can have mixed colours and shades of brown, pink, tan, and
red. Atypical moles are carried throughout the family genes
and can present a risk of skin cancer and melanoma development.
If someone has a concern over their moles,
even if they appear to be normal, they should consult with
their doctor. Their doctor will be able to determine if the
patient should see a dermatologist or not. A general health
practitioner will be able to examine each normal mole in question
and refer the person to a qualified dermatologist. A dermatologist
will then make the final examination and diagnosis. Most likely
if the moles were normal to begin with, they are benign mole.
Benign moles mean they are not cancerous and pose no threat
to the individual. As with any moles, be aware of them and
do regular self check ups a few times a year.
If someone does not like there normal moles because of cosmetic reasons they should consider using these natural home remedies for mole removal.
