moles does not mean they are at risk for skin cancer.
Cancerous moles have specific symptoms called the ABCDE’s.
They are known as asymmetry, border, color, diameter, and
evolution.
- Asymmetry – If a person notices any change in the size of their moles they should go get it examined by a dermatologist.
- Border – If the border has thickened or changed to a different colour over a period of time, it should be looked at by a qualified doctor.
- Color – Color is a very important sign of a possible concern. If the color of the mole changes from pink to black, or tan to red etc. the skin moles should be tested and checked by a health professional.
- Diameter – If there is a large increase in the diameter of the mole it should be analyzed.
- Evolution – If the skin moles keep growing and are rising in size they need to be examined.
Dermatologists recommend that people do their own checks on their skin moles. Keep an eye out for any abnormalities and color changes. If a person notices anything unusual with their moles they should make an appointment to consult with their doctor.
